Participatory Defense Training

  • Northampton Center for the Arts 33 Hawley Street Northampton, MA, 01060 United States (map)

We are hosting a two day training facilitated by Silicon Valley De-Bug on participatory defense, a community organizing model for people facing charges, their families, and communities to impact the outcome of cases and transform the landscape of power in the court system. We will be launching a participatory defense hub in January 2025, and this training is for people who want to participate in getting the hub started.

Activities of a hub include: hosting weekly meetings where families come together, share updates on their loved one’s case, and brainstorm possible interventions working with families to create socio-biographical packets to help humanize their loved one and show how they are embedded in the community; providing court support; and prepping family members to know what types of questions to ask their loved one’s lawyer.

The training will be Saturday December 14 from 9am-4pm, and Sunday December 15 from 9am-1pm. It is helpful if you can attend the whole training, but if you can only attend one day and really want to participate, then still join us!

Snacks and beverages will be available on both days, and lunch will be served on Saturday.
