Free Film Screening: “Sleep Dealer”

  • Pulp Gallery 80 Race Street Holyoke, MA, 01040 United States (map)

Join us on Sunday, October 27th, from 7-9pm for a free screening of “Sleep Dealer” at Pulp Gallery. RSVP below!

‘Sleep Dealer’ is a Sundance award-winning sci-fi thriller centered on the story of Memo Cruz (Luis Fernando Peña), a young man in near-future Mexico. When his family is victim of a misguided drone attack he finds himself with no option but to head north, towards the U.S./Mexico border. But migrant workers cannot cross this new world border – it's been sealed off. Instead, Memo ends up in a strange digital factory in Mexico where he connects his body to a robot in America. Memo's search for a better future leads him to love, loss, and a confrontation with a mysterious figure from his past. The paradox of a world connected by technology, but divided by borders, is the central concept of Sleep Dealer; it is a science-fiction with many anchors in today’s reality.

About the Film Series:
Decarcerate Western Mass is offering a summer film series focused on prison abolition and how it overlaps with other struggles like immigration, criminalized mutual aid, and more.

Each screening will include a talk-back or activity aimed at building political will for abolition of the prison industrial complex in Western Mass and beyond.

We’ll ask for donations at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Masks are always required.
