Who We Are

Decarcerate Western Mass is a coalition of people and organizations across so-called Western Massachusetts, that came together at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic with the purpose of supporting incarcerated folks and getting people released. We are an abolitionist group, aiming to reduce the number of people incarcerated in prisons and jails across the country (eventually to 0!), with a local focus in Western Mass.

Get Involved

We hold a general meeting every other Monday at 7 p.m. Contact decarceratewmass@gmail.com for details. We’d love to have you join us.

Our efforts are currently focused on our Bailout Project. We raise funds to bail out people from our county jails—we find bails when lawyers of defendants fill out our referral form here—and provide them with rides when they are released. Once people show up for their court hearings and their case is finalized, we get the money back and can continue to cycle it through to get more people out!

If you would like to get involved and support the work of the Bailout Project—by posting bails or fundraising, for example—contact us at decarwmassfundraising@gmail.com. We meet as a group on Sundays at 6:30 p.m.
